Grief Relief Guide

Grief is exhausting...

My guess is that you are not sleeping and can barely function. You've had the carpet pulled out from underneath you and your body and soul have taken a beating.

Everyone is telling you that you need to take care of yourself - you need to eat (healthy!), drink lots of water and get plenty of rest. But you're still struggling to figure out HOW.

I created this basic, easy-to-implement grief guide for bereaved mothers like you.

As annoying as it is to hear about proper nutrition, hydration and sleep, it is true that we need to take care of these basic needs or we will not have the energy to cope and carry on.

In this guide, I have provided a super-nutritious smoothie that you can make in less than 5 minutes, a short relaxation and pre-sleep mediation and another quickie recipe for natural, infused water that will encourage you to drink more and stay hydrated.

I'm all about EASY and ACHIEVABLE self-care when grief zaps all of your energy.










Blueberry Mango Smoothie (for 2 smoothies)

  • 1 cup baby spinach

  • 1 cup mango chunks

  • ½ cup blueberries

  • ¼ cup 0% plain Greek yogurt

  • 1 small banana

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup ice



  • Combine spinach, mango, blueberries, yogurt and banana in a blender. Add water and ice.

  • Blend until smooth.


This smoothie provides a healthy dose of vitamins, carbohydrate, and protein to give you more energy.


Precious sleep...I don't know about you, but I am a WRECK without sleep. If I don't get a good-night's sleep, I cry at everything and cannot manage my emotions AT ALL.

This is what I struggle with the most on my own grief journey. Every single day, I have to work on this and have discovered a few tools that have helped me immensely. Listening to guided meditations have been one of my go-to's. There are many available online, but not all of them are specific for child loss or grief. I have created a very short one for you to listen to when you need to - either before sleep or any time you need grounding.

I recommend downloading the meditation to your smartphone so that you can plug in your earphones and lay in bed with it. Adjust the volume so that it is soothing for you.

Last but not least, a quick word about water and staying hydrated. As bereaved moms, we lose more water than other people just because of all the tears we cry. Even slight dehydration can make depression worse. Yet, water isn't all that appealing, is it? 

Try this recipe and notice how much more water you drink...and how much better you feel:














Infused strawberry, lemon and basil water (makes a pitcher)

  • 1 pint strawberries, sliced

  • 10 fresh basil leaves, torn (or less)

  • 1 lemon, sliced

  • 2 quarts water



  • Combine strawberries, basil and lemon in a large pitcher. Add 2 quarts water. Refrigerate at least 3 hours or up to 2 days.


(an alternative is cucumber mint water)
